Meet Ajiri. The founder of lifestyle brand Madame de La Maison has cut a stylish swath thru Paris; and truly, whatever the chic American expat touches, turns into a joyous celebration of joie de vivre. From setting the perfect table to hosting the perfect apéro (that’s happy hour to you), Ajiri’s philosophy is simple: find joy in the every day—from what you eat, where you go, and how you linger. Her new book ‘Joie: A Parisian’s Guide to Celebrating the Good Life’ puts her Parisian expertise into one useful and utterly elegant book. So, let’s get to know Ajiri shall we? Mais, oui!

Who are you?

Ajiri, a curator and creator of objects and experiences that facilitate fellowship and joy.

What’s on your mind?

Sorting out my Summer travels to Italy, Switzerland, and Provence.

Where are you right now?

At a cafe in the 11th in Paris.

Who are your heroes?

Maya Angelou and Anna Winger, two women who have worn many hats in life and appreciate storytelling and words. (Anna is a living hero who I have the honor of knowing and learning from.)

Why do you do what you do?

Because as William Morris said "fellowship is life." And life is better shared with people I love...and all of it brings me joy.

What’s your favorite thing to cook?

I have 2 faves:

1. Oxtail stew because it is easy & a flavor bomb.
2. Bossam with lots of sides and condiments because it's always a crowd pleaser.

What’s your favorite thing to eat?

Okra! Fried, sautéed, or stewed... I love it!!
