ANDY BARAGHANI

CHEF and COOKBOOK AUTHOR

March 2022

Whats cookin’? For Andy Baraghani, quite a lot. These days, the food writer, Chez Panisse and Estela alum, and mastermind behind some of Bon Appétit’s most popular Test Kitchen recipes has not only been putting whisk to bowl but now— pen to paper. His much-anticipated debut cookbook The Cook You Want to Be: Everyday Recipes to Impress is guaranteed to bring all of his signature bold flavor and eye-poppingly vibrant plates right to your own kitchen. Drawing on a multicultural pantry, fresh seasonal ingredients and simple, delicious umami-packed recipes, Andy shows home cooks how to hone their own cooking styles by teaching the techniques and methods that’ll set anyone up for success. Andy’s new cookbook is truly a must-have— it’s food you want to cook, eat and repeat. As he says: “I want you to make and love the recipes, and REALLY use this book until it is beautifully turmeric-stained all over.” Let’s get to know a bit more about Andy, shall we?

Andy Baraghani Peter Som

Who are you?

A tired New Yorker. A curious cook. The occasional troublemaker.

What’s on your mind?

Spring in New York at this very moment.

Where are you right now?

At my new home in Brooklyn.

When did you start?

Debating about leaving the U.S. and moving to Paris? Ever since I landed back in New York last night. I’ll stay put though…for now.

Why do you do what you do?

To satisfy my curiosity and to hopefully inspire others.

What is your favorite meal to eat?

Too many things…buttered short-grain rice, shellfish worth fighting for, Persian food my mom makes.

What is your favorite meal to cook?

Long, lazy lunches or elaborate dinners. I am more drawn to curating a menu than making one big pot of something. I want to be able to experience all kinds of textures.
