Holiday Giving

Giving a gift can mean so many things— but for many, those ‘gifts’ can mean being well fed with a nutritious hot meal, having access to medicine, or the ability to find safe passage from a war-torn country. There are seemingly an infinite number of organizations with wildly worthy causes, it can be hard to choose. Find causes and organizations that resonate with you, and give generously and often. Here are a few charities to support not just this holiday season, but all year long.


 
 

Gods Love We Deliver cooks and home-delivers nutritious, medically tailored meals for people too sick to shop or cook for themselves. To support the health of their clients, they also provide ongoing nutrition assessment, education, and counseling. God’s Love is a non-sectarian organization serving people in need and their children and caregivers.


 
 

Heart of Dinner exists to combat food insecurity and isolation within NYC’s elderly East Asian American community by delivering care packages of hot lunches and fresh produce every Wednesday, lovingly paired with a handwritten and illustrated letter in their native language to bring warmth and comfort.


 
 

Every Mother Counts is dedicated to making pregnancy and childbirth safe for every mother. Founded by Christy Turlington Burns, Every Mother Counts strives inform, engage, and mobilize new audiences to take actions and raise funds that support maternal health programs around the world.


 
 

Benevolent Missions International a nonprofit providing eye care to rural communities around of the world. The organization works with local officials to set up well-equipped medical clinics. BMI helps develop each site into a self-sufficient mission operated by local medical personnel and volunteers. Donations toward the organization help provide free healthcare services, life-changing cataract surgeries, training for healthcare workers, and medical equipment.


 
 

Pets for the Elderly pairs senior citizens with furry friends living in animal shelters. The organization serves a twofold mission of providing older people with companionship while giving homeless pets warm and loving places to live.


 
 

Miles4Migrants supports survivors of war, oppression and disaster by providing flights to safer areas where asylum-seekers can begin new lives. Donors can gift money or frequent flyer miles to transport individuals who are legally approved to travel but unable to afford plane tickets on their own.


 
 

Feeding America is a United States–based nonprofit organization that is a nationwide network of more than 200 food banks that feed more than 46 million people through food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, and other community-based agencies.


Masbia is a nonprofit soup kitchen network and food pantry, every day providing hot, nutritious meals for hundreds of New Yorkers in desperate need of food. Alongside our hot-meal program, they also give out bags of much-needed groceries every week to those with not enough at home, through our weekend take-home package program. Masbia works to not only feed the hungry, but to provide free, wholesome, and delicious meals for people in a restaurant-style environment, with volunteer waiters serving each person with respect and dignity.


 
 

Brown Girl Surf works to build a more diverse, environmentally reverent, and joyful women’s, girl’s, and gender expansive surf culture by increasing access to surfing, cultivating community, amplifying the voices of surfers of color, and taking care of the earth.


 
 

Apex for Youth delivers possibilities to underserved Asian and immigrant youth from low-income families in NYC. Through mentoring and educational programs that serve students from 1st to 12th grade, Apex volunteers guide and support youth to become confident, be ready for college and give back to the community.
