Meet Camille. Chef and partner at Brooklyn all-day hotspot As You Are, located inside the Ace Hotel. Camille has helmed many a noted restaurant kitchen throughout her storied career, and her culinary magic is on display again with As You Are, where she deftly and thoughtfully celebrates the many culinary traditions of the borough. And, to top it off, her debut cookbook Bright Cooking comes out in Spring 2024! Let’s raise a glass to Camille and get to know her a bit more, shall we?

Who are you?
Camille Becerra, chef & partner at As Your Are in Brooklyn, NY.
What’s on your mind?
Getting out of the city for a little break. I like to head South + visit family in Miami & Puerto Rico.
Where are you right now?
Evening lounging on a Judd-eske daybed in my apt located in a converted high school built in the late 1800's in the Lower East Side.
Who are your heroes?
People who start with nothing or support + make something…they're alchemists to me. I'm in awe.
Why do you do what you do?
Feeding the public is like public service, it keeps me humble and grounded cooking for the nation's most opinionated foodies will do that.
What is your favorite thing to cook?
The Carrot Tamarind Cinnamon Refresher at As You Are. On days I'm sluggish our Aloe Refresher with coconut water, sea moss + chia seed revitalizes and makes me feel like every cell in my body is happy.
What is your favorite thing to eat?
A morning espresso w/ high quality sourdough toasted with salted cultured butter is a beloved duo. Also, delicately cooked fresh fish by the sea with lots of lime, coconut rice, veggie slaw and ice cold beer.
