CHECKING IN: The Dewberry

Let’s check in and check out this mid-century landmark hotel in Charleston, shall we?

THE WHERE:

Charleston, SC

THE WHAT:

A former Federal Building in the heart of Charleston that’s been renovated into a chic mid-century jewel box of a hotel. Antique Scandinavian design with a heavy dose of equal parts Southern charm and comfort. Luxurious rooms—(the John Derian-designed suite is a one-of a kind treat) are perfectly appointed with marble baths and imported Irish mattresses—talk about sweet dreams!

THE WHEN:

High seasons are Spring and Fall, when the weather is milder (if you’re up for braving the sultry Southern summer heat, go for it) . The annual Spoleto Festival each spring is a city-wide celebration of the arts with theaters, churches and outdoor spaces alive with music, opera, theater, jazz and so much more, and take advantage of the bounty of the sea (Charleston is surrounded by water) not just with the seafood (of which there is aplenty), but with the Dewberry’s yachting program with Barton and Grey , a truly idyllic way to see the city.

The YUM:

Upscale comfort food (the cheddar biscuits are a dream) is served all day in the lobby-level Living Room, along with cocktails at the showstopping Brass Bar in the evening. For a lively yet elegant vibe head to the rooftop Citrus Club for a panoramic view of the city and enjoy light bites while you sip on citrus-inspired cocktails.

Whet your Whistle: ‘Monkey Business’ featuring Ten to One Rum, bourbon, banana liqueur, almond syrup and blue curacao

The WHY?:

Charleston is a city absolutely brimming with history and the Dewberry is a hop, skip and a stroll to historic neighborhoods like South of Broad and the French Quarters, as well as incredible shopping on King Street. Furthermore, Charleston has emerged as a true dining destination with James Beard award-winning restaurants dotting the city—the options are endless and the Dewberry is right in the heart of all of it.
